May 2012 - The Chris Dawson Foundation

Organization: The Chris Dawson Foundation

MissionTo celebrate the legacy of Chris Dawson in three ways: developing and managing centres for not-for-profit organizations; participating in educational opportunities; and supporting charitable events, which will further community development.

HistoryThe Chris Dawson Memorial Foundation is a private family foundation, created in 2009, as a legacy for the late Christopher Dawson. Since it's inception, the Foundation has successful opened and now operates The Chris Dawson Center, which is 71% occupied as of January 2012.

Managing Non-Profit Centre:

The Chris Dawson Foundation will assist charitable not-for-profit organizations, and thus the clients they serve, by providing them with resources to better accomplish their goals. The Foundation accomplishes this through The Chris Dawson Centre, which is a 17,353 sq ft building in Sarnia that offers not-for-profit organizations an economical office space and consolidated resources.

The Chris Dawson Centre offers innovative ways to reduce overhead expenses, through sharing services, some of which include: Three meeting rooms, with the latest in multimedia technology; Staff Room / Kitchen; Photocopiers / Printers / Scanners; High-speed Internet; VOIP telephone system (Voice Over Internet Protocol); Reception area and a Mailroom

Educational Opportunities:

One of the mandates at The Chris Dawson Foundation is to participate in educational opportunities, such as scholarships and sponsorships. The foundation has a goal to create a scholarship at Lambton College for students who have shown exemplary community spirit by volunteering their time and are continuing their education. Sponsorships will be geared for children/youth who would like to participate in an extracurricular activity, but do not have the financial backing to do so.

Community Partnerships/Collaboration:

The last mandate of our organization is to identify areas where the community can benefit from partnership opportunities between charitable or community minded organizations. The Chris Dawson Foundation Board continually assesses partnership requests and most recently approved a significant partnership with SIFE Lambton College and the Race to Erase as an indication of how we feel collaboration and teamwork will better our community.

Things You Can Do: At The Chris Dawson Foundation there are several ways you can participate:
1. Refer qualified charitable non profit organizations to consider leasing one of the final three suites at the centre.
2.Volunteer on a committee.
3. Make a donation (Capital Campaign or Scholarships).
4. Participate in one of the several events TCDF is a benefactor for (Race to Erase/International Speed Boat Race).

Nominated Because: "I nominated the Chris Dawson Foundation because I believe in their cause.  Having volunteered with the Frugal & Fabulous event I can see how much the team members care about what they are doing and the foundation itself is a worthy organization for all they do for their non-profit tenants and the community of Sarnia-Lambton." ~ Marci Palframan
