Organization: St. Clair Child & Youth Services

Mission: St. Clair Child & Youth Services is a progressive Children's Mental Health Centre dedicated to helping children and youth in coping with and adapting to life's challenges. With vision, creativity and flexibility, we work with parents and the community in providing integrated early intervention, prevention, residential and non-residential treatment services.

About: St. Clair Child and Youth Services is a key component of the social infrastructure of Sarnia-Lambton. It is regarded as the primary advocate and source for services related to mental health of our children and youth. St. Clair Child and Youth Services is a accredited member of Children's Mental Health Ontario.

The Agency is funded by the Government of Ontario, the County of Lambton, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton, fee for service, as well private and corporate donations, meaning there is no direct charge to clients for services.

Services: St. Clair Child & Youth services are provided by multi-disciplinary teams of psychologists, social workers, psychiatry, psychometrists, child and youth care workers, infant therapists, preschool resource teachers, preschool consultants, family support facilitators and primary prevention workers.  Services to parents, youth and the community fall into 3 categories:

The Clinical Services Division provides assessment and treatment services to children, youth and families who present with a wide range of children's mental health concerns. In order to accomplish this mandate, the division employs a multi-disciplinary staff of child and youth workers, social workers, psychometrist, as well as a consulting psychologist and psychiatrist;

Community Services offers a Parent/Infant Therapy Program, prevention programs for at-risk children populations, as well as brief family counselling adjunctive service. The underlying philosophy of Community Services is the belief that interventions should focus upon the developmental potential, rather than the handicaps, of children with special needs, and that the inclusion of children with special needs in regular settings is an important prerequisite for optimizing their emotional and cognitive growth;

The Family Support Division provides a range of programs as part of a strategic partnership with our local Children's Aid Society. All services are dedicated to improving the mental health well being and placement stability of children and youth. The services provided by the Family Support Division are provided in home and in the community.

Things You Can Do:  St. Clair Child & Youth believes that "volunteers make it happen" and they utilize them in a number of areas of the organization, from transportation to assisting with infant programs to data entry.  You can also provide financial assistance through personal donations, the Leave a Legacy Program or participating in fundraising events & activities.

Nominated Because: "The dedicated staff of St. Clair Child & Youth not only provided support to get my family 'back on track' after crisis; they gave us the skills to support each other and move forward into a bright future.  We are now a family full of hope, strength and gratitude, thank you SCCYS." ~ Jennifer Mullins

"This not for profit organization provides exceptional support for our local youth.  I believe our community has come to understand the importance of this organization in light of the young lives lost the past two years.  The staff and directors of St Clair Child & Youth are passionate about their work and I cannot speak more highly of them!  Young people have many struggles and St Clair Child & Youth needs all the support we can give them so that they can continue to provide their services to our children." ~ Dianna Brown
