Every month Sarnia Gives & Starbucks Canada celebrate the hard work and dedication that a Sarnia-Lambton community member has shown by giving back. If you know someone that should be recognized, please nominate here.
Name: Anita Minielly
Number of Years Volunteering: 10 years of volunteering with a variety of not-for-profits.
Organizations: Kidney Foundation of Canada, Sarnia-Lambton Chapter, Bluewater Baptist Church, The Chris Dawson Foundation, Missions for Life, Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce, Inn of the Good Shepherd - Soup Kitchen
Activities: Anita has been involved on all levels of volunteering. She has: taught Sunday school and traveled the world to assist on mission trips with Bluewater Baptist Church; cooked and served at the Inn's soup kitchen; assisted with and coordinated fundraising events (Frugal & Fabulous, Race to Erase and golf tournaments) for The Chris Dawson Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce; and was a Board Member with the Kidney Foundation for seven years.
How It All Started: Anita began volunteering in 2002, as a way to give back to the Kidney Foundation, after her grandma was diagnosed with kidney failure. From there her heart has grown for volunteering and not-for-profits. Anita says, volunteering has made her realize that it take a special person, with a giving heart to help out within the NFP sector because it's not about the glory, it's all about working as a team to touch as many lives as possible and to make the world a better place.
Tip for Volunteers: "You need to forget the mentality of, 'what's in it for me' and put all of your gifts and talents to use. It's an amazing feeling and experience to know that you played a part of raising awareness and/or money for a specific cause/organization."
Nominated by: "I’d like to nominate Anita Minielly for her work with the Frugal & Fabulous – Cocktails for a Cause , Anita did an amazing job while working for the Chris Dawson Foundation but because she actually started a new job with Bluewater Health a couple months ago she did the rest of the work on the event in her own time. Which is amazing." ~ Marci Palframan
